Xbox friends' avatar orb appearing in my game?

I was working as the blacksmith in Fable 2 and one of my xbox friends' avatar pic (in a little orb with glowing green edges) appeared behind my character. This friend was also playing fable 2 and working as a blacksmith in the same location. Is there a reason or explanation of why this happens?
