Is it okay to let my parakeet walk around my room?

I just got him. He's less than 3 months old and I'm trying to make him more comfortable so I can tame him. He'll get on my finger, but he always jumps off and tries to fly after a couple seconds(his wings are clipped). Would it be okay to let him walk around the room? I can deal with the poop but Im worried about his safety
